FOMO Sun is a non-commercial side project that helps people in Switzerland find sunny day trips. No paid services are sold through this site.

Data protection notice

This notice is provided under Art. 19 of the revised Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (revFADP), in force since 1 September 2023. It explains what personal data we process when you visit fomosun.com and how you can exercise your rights.

1. What we process

We try to collect as little personal data as possible. In practice, this means:

• Technical access data automatically logged by our hosting provider (IP address, browser user-agent, timestamp, requested URL). Used for security, debugging, and to keep the site running.
• Usage analytics via Vercel Analytics — page views, referrer, approximate country, device type, and similar aggregated signals. Vercel Analytics is cookieless and designed to be GDPR/FADP-friendly; it does not build a cross-site profile or use advertising identifiers.
• Performance measurement via Vercel Speed Insights — anonymised Core Web Vitals (load time, interaction latency, layout stability) so we can keep the site fast. No personal profile is built.
• Privacy-friendly analytics via Umami — only active when configured in our environment. Cookieless, no personal profiles.
• Approximate location — only if you click “Use my location.” Your latitude and longitude are then used in your browser to pick a nearby origin city. They are sent to our weather and reverse-geocoding providers to compute results for that point, but are not stored in a user profile on our side.
• No accounts, no cookies for tracking, no localStorage of personal data. The site works without you logging in or sharing personal details.

We do not use personal data for automated individual decisions with legal effect (Art. 21 revFADP).

2. Third parties we rely on

The following providers process small amounts of technical data on our behalf to make the site work. Where data is transferred outside Switzerland, we rely on the European Commission’s adequacy decisions or on Standard Contractual Clauses:

• Vercel Inc. — hosting, deployment, speed insights, and traffic analytics. Data may be processed in the United States. Vercel privacy policy.
• Umami (optional, privacy-friendly analytics, no cookies, no personal profiles) — only active when configured in our environment. Umami privacy policy.
• Open-Meteo (Bremen, Germany) — weather forecasts. Queries use coordinates only, no user identifiers.
• MeteoSwiss / Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology (Switzerland) — open weather data for Switzerland.
• opentransportdata.swiss (SBB / OJP) — public Swiss transport timetable data.
• swisstopo — map tiles for the sun map.
• Notion Labs Inc. — headless CMS for blog and about content (when enabled).

3. Your rights

Under the revFADP you may at any time:

• Request information about the personal data we process about you (Art. 25 revFADP).
• Have inaccurate data corrected or incomplete data completed.
• Request deletion or restriction of processing, where this is legally possible.
• File a complaint with the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC / EDÖB).

4. Retention

Technical access logs are kept for as long as our hosting provider retains them by default (typically a few weeks). Aggregate analytics are retained in anonymised form without a personal link.

Weather forecasts, travel times, and trip suggestions on FOMO Sun are provided for general information. They come from third-party data sources and can be inaccurate, delayed, or unavailable. Always double-check train times and conditions before travelling, especially in the mountains in winter. We accept no liability for decisions made based on the information shown here.
